Hudson Tunnel Project Receives Approval for Full Funding
The Federal government approved $6.88 billion dollar grant to build the Hudson River Tunnel (HRT) connecting New York and New Jersey. This is the last part of the funding agreement for the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP) which totals to $12 billion, the largest ever federal commitment to a transit project.
The HTP is part of the overall Gateway project which improves a 10-mile stretch of the Northeast Rail Corridor, including the new tunnel under the Hudson. In February the Gateway Development Comission (GDC) selected the Delivery Partner contract for the HTP. Gall Zeidler Consultants (GZ) has been selected as part of the Gateway Program Delivery Partner providing tunnelling and underground advisory services to the GDC and its partners Amtrak, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ), and New Jersey Transit (NJT).
For over 10 years, GZ has been involved in the $19B Gateway Program, initially through its role as part of the Program Management Support Services Contract under Amtrak before transitioning to the Delivery Partner Team. As part of the Delivery Partner Team, we provide program-wide tunnel advisory, construction management, program management, and expert services in supporting GDC, Amtrak, PANYNJ, and NJT with staff from the various client offices. We are looking forward to supporting our clients to a successful completion of the project.
