On July 27th, DC Metro’s Silver Line Phase 1 opened for passenger service, as discussed in this article.  Silver Line Phase 1 will extend existing metro service to a total of 5 new stations located throughout Tysons Corner and Reston, Virginia.  The construction of the Silver Line presented many unique challenges, including the design of NATM mined running tunnels under Tysons Corner with extremely low overburden.  Silver Line Phase 2 will extend the Silver Line to Dulles International Airport and Loudon County.
