Grand Central Madison Project Wins the Highest ACEC Award

At the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)’ 58th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards last month, the Grand Central Madison Project, formerly known as East Side Access (ESA), has been awarded the Grand Conceptor Award..

Grand Central Madison extends the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) from Queens to a new terminal below the existing Grand Central Terminal. The project eases congestion at Penn Station, saves time for commuters, and has led to 41 percent increase in the use of the LIRR. The project included 40 miles of new tracks, a new terminal, and extensive excavations deep below Park Avenue.

Gall Zeidler Consultants (GZ) is proud to have been involved in this project since its inception and we congratulate the MTA, AECOM and all project particpants for this prestigious award. GZ has been providing tunnel engineering and construction management services for this Program to the General Engineering Consultant (GEC) and to the Program Manager/Construction Manager since year 2000. GZ participated in the tunnel and the cavern design, structural and geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring programs, waterproofing and final lining design, and provided construction management and inspection services for various project elements.
