FTA Upgrades Rating for the Hudson Tunnel Project
According to a recently published AP News article, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is making the Hudson Tunnel project eligible to receive federal grants by upgrading the tunnel project’s rating to medium-high. Federal regulators announced the key approval for the planned $10 billion train tunnel under the Hudson River. According to the Gateway Development Commission, the financial approval moves the project closer to a true Federal-local partnership, consisting of the $6 billion commitment from New York and New Jersey, and the $1.4 billion that Amtrak has pledged. Funding for the tunnel will come out of money earmarked for rail projects in the recently passed $1 trillion infrastructure bill.
